Bill Bergen

Bill Bergen is a retired investment advisor and is now enjoying his time working on various writing and blogging projects.

When talking about his work, Bill likes to say that he started out as a farm kid, growing up on an irrigation farm near Rosemary, Alberta.  He began helping out at an early age with gardening and yard work and as soon as his left leg was long enough to push in a clutch, he began driving tractor and helping out his dad in more substantial ways.

Bill’s love of music and hours of listening to the radio while driving tractor led him to pursue a career in radio broadcasting.  After graduation from the CTSR program at SAIT Polytechnic, Bill began spinning 45s as a night time disc jockey, then moved on to be a “morning man” and a program director at various stations during the 1980s.

Leaving broadcasting in 1989 to get a university education, Bill expected to return to radio after obtaining his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.  However, a friend of his encouraged him to apply for work as an investment advisor and that is where he spent the next 23 years working, starting with Burns Fry which ultimately became BMO Nesbitt Burns.  During that time, he managed investment portfolios, and advised on retirement planning and estate planning.

Bill is the proud father of three adult sons and in his spare time enjoys riding his Harley Davidson Road King Classic, driving his 1972 Chevy truck and socializing with his friends.  He still loves all kinds of music, but also enjoys writing, reading, movies, watching sports and travelling.
